Huawei's Dresden Research Center is a product-motivated research and development center. We do research on industrial formal methods, weak memory model and concurrency, parallelization, and the full systems stack from hardware over operating system to web/rendering engines.

Join us as a Rust Ecosystem Engineer (m/f/d).

Open Harmony is a new open source Operating System Framework developed by the Open Atom Foundation as part of the strategy to build an independent technology platform. In our Dresden Research Center, we are working on making Rust a first class citizen in the Open Harmony ecosystem. Rust is already successfully used in several core Open Harmony system components. We are looking to lay the foundations for third-party developers to seamlessly support Open Harmony devices in their cross-platform applications and libraries.

We are looking for colleagues to support us in one or more of the following areas:

• Integrate Open Harmony support into key Rust crates providing cross-platform abstractions, enabling applications to seamlessly support Open Harmony
• Analyze and integrate a high-performance, cross-platform Rust UI framework into the Open Harmony ecosystem
• Contribute to developing a next-generation web rendering engine written in Rust, including developing new algorithms to improve concurrency and performance, and integration as a webview into Open Harmony apps
• Investigate optimization opportunities for Open Harmony devices running on the Hong Meng kernel
• Actively collaborate with internal stakeholders as well as the Rust and the Open Harmony community

• BSc/Master or PhD in Computer Science or other related disciplines
• Profound knowledge of Rust and C
• Experience with the Rust-FFI
• Broad knowledge in concurrency and parallelism
• History of contributing to open-source projects (in Rust) is a plus
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing is a plus
• Passion for software quality and performance, and openness to learn from failure
• Fluent in written and spoken English
