Position: Animal Services Attendant (Part-time)

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Animal Services Supervisor, performs routine maintenance of the animal shelter and care of the animals. Primarily responsible for feeding and watering animals during the week. Cleans and maintains kennels and feeds animals. (This shelter performs euthanasia of animals in accordance with applicable animal control ordinances, policies and procedure.)

Essential Functions
  • Performs routine and technical services of the animal shelter: cleans shelter kennels, cages, floors, walls, animal dishes, and equipment following prescribed disinfecting guidelines.
  • Inspects areas for safety hazards; properly handles all animals using equipment and tools in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Feeds animals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education – High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience – Experience working with animals preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications – Valid Utah driver license.
  • Must pass a BCI clearance, background check and drug screen.

    • Animal control procedure related to the care of large and small domestic animals

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. May lift up to 50 pounds and move/drag up to 145 pounds.

Position requires occasional working outdoors. May drive a motor vehicle.

The position is impacted by the necessity of uncontrollable workflow and the need to make quick decisions that may involve frequent interruptions. Frequent exposure to loud noises, unpleasant odors, cleaning agents, pet dander, zoonotic diseases, and dangerous animals that may bite, kick, or scratch. Exposure to animal body fluids in caring for their needs.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Animal Services has two part-time attendant positions each working a total of 7.5 hours per week. This current part-time attendant position requires the following:
    • Thursday – 2.5 hours with flexibility to work between 4 PM to 12 AM
    • Saturday – 5 hours with flexibility to work any time that day
    • Must cover and rotate holidays with part-time co-worker
    • May also be required to cover co-workers Sunday and Tuesday shifts when needed. Flexibility with hours is available.
  • Salary range: $15.86 to $26.46 (Starting wage is dependent on experience.)
