Overview

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for a mission-driven, values-based nonprofit organization dedicated to education, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. This is an onsite executive leadership role based in Northern Utah.

The Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic thought partner to the executive team, guiding financial strategy while supporting organizational growth, sustainability, and impact. This role oversees financial planning, compliance, and enterprise-wide risk management, ensuring fiscal systems align with mission, values, and long-term goals. The CFO plays a visible leadership role, promoting transparency, collaboration, and data-informed decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic financial leadership, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and organizational risk assessment
  • Oversee financial operations, internal controls, audits, regulatory filings, and compliance with nonprofit best practices
  • Partner with executive leadership to evaluate financial implications of programs, capital initiatives, and growth opportunities
  • Manage organizational investments, reserves, and long-term financial sustainability planning
  • Lead contract review, insurance oversight, and vendor management with a focus on fiscal responsibility and equity
  • Build and support inclusive, high-performing Finance, HR, and IT teams through mentorship, collaboration, and succession planning

  • Demonstrated success in senior financial leadership within complex, mission-driven organizations
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and financial communication skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience overseeing audits, investments, compliance, and organizational risk management
  • Collaborative leadership style grounded in integrity, transparency, and service
  • Commitment to equity-centered leadership and inclusive organizational practices
Compensation and Benefits

This role offers a competitive hourly rate of $80-85/hour commensurate with experience, along with eligibility for benefits program that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance.
