Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Accountant for a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on education, conservation, and community impact. This is a 100% onsite, temp-to-hire opportunity based in Draper, Utah
.
The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, audit readiness, and strong internal controls for a complex nonprofit organization. This role owns the review and approval of key accounting functions while serving as a senior technical resource for compliance, audits, and regulatory filings. The position partners closely with leadership to ensure long-term financial integrity, risk management, and operational stability.

- Oversee and approve payroll entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close activity
- Lead financial, 401(k), and regulatory audits and review filings including Form 990, 5500, and 1099s
- Ensure proper accounting and controls for donations, grants, and restricted funds
- Provide technical guidance, review work, and mentor accounting team members
- Partner with the Controller on delegated responsibilities, continuity planning, and financial oversight
- Support process improvement, controls enhancement, and system optimization initiatives
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP
, audit processes, and regulatory compliance - Experience reviewing complex reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and manage sensitive financial matters with discretion
- Comfortable serving as a primary point of contact for auditors and leadership
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, and elevate accounting staff
This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with an hourly rate during the contract period and a conversion salary of $72,000–$83,000
, depending on experience.
