The post holder will be an integral member of the Team on the Dementia assessment ward. The post holder will facilitate and support people with a diagnosis of dementia, under the direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist and in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures. The post holder will be responsible for the management of a delegated caseload. The post holder will participate in assessments, treatments and interventions to maximise independent living skills, including: the provision of person-centred therapeutic activities (1:1 & / or groups) to provide cognitive stimulation, purposeful / meaningful activity, and social inclusion activities, using graded activity, sensory interventions, the provision of equipment and/or modification of the environment.
Responsibilities- To assist the Occupational Therapist during assessment and treatment of service users with dementia and older adults within mental health services
- To maintain own caseload of allocated service users, independently prioritising and reporting activity and changes to the Occupational Therapist
- To maintain accurate records on service user casework
- To assist with initial interviews with service users next of kin, gathering details and information about the service user’s premorbid functional status, physical layout and features of the home living environment
- Experience working with older people and/or people with a dementia
- Experience of providing activities in a paid or unpaid capacity or use of dementia specific interventions such as:
Montessori, Life story work, Sonas, etc. - 5 GCSEs (Grade A-C) or equivalent, or relevant NVQ II in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification PLUS,
- A minimum of 2 years’ paid employment or voluntary experience working in a health/social care related role providing direct patient care interventions, eg. In patient dementia, learning disability, disability services, hospital setting,
- residential or nursing homes or community services in a support worker role e.g. nursing assistant, care assistant, day care worker, generic rehab worker, AHP assistant.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport....

- Have worked with, volunteered with, or know someone who has Dementia or a Mental Health diagnosis
- To have or be willing to work towards additional, relevant qualifications
