Job Description
The Senior Backup Solutions Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise-level backup and disaster recovery solutions. The role collaborates with infrastructure teams, cloud engineers, security specialists, and business stakeholders to ensure that critical data is reliably protected, recoverable, and compliant with relevant regulations and service-level agreements. The role maintains and supports a variety of backup and storage systems, including Comm Vault, Comm Vault Cloud, Auto-Recovery (DR), M365 Protection, Azure AD Protection, Cloud VM Backups, Air Gap Protect (AGP), Commvault Clean Room, Dell/EMC, IBM, Net App, and Pure Storage.
The architect administers, installs, configures, and maintains all backup and storage solutions; creates Comm Vault backup jobs for Linux, UNIX, and Windows hosts; manages Network Attached Storage (NAS) through NDMP; works with databases such as DB2, SQL, Oracle, and Postgre
SQL; and handles masking, zoning, and provisioning of storage for UNIX, Windows, and VMware servers. The architect oversees all data backup and recovery support for cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), OCI and IBM Cloud, including planning regular system upgrades, monitoring system health, and implementing necessary adjustments. The role analyzes issues reported by internal and external teams, offers recommendations, designs systems architecture, collaborates with customers to test applications post-changes, upgrades hardware efficiently with minimal downtime, and evaluates new application software technologies while ensuring security products are consistently patched.
- In-depth understanding, knowledge and experience with Commvault and Commvault Cloud SaaS solutions, and experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, OCI, and GCP.
- Ability to document technical information effectively and communicate with business teams, customers, and technical teams in areas like networking, security, and vendor management.
- Experience performing data protection for on-premises and public cloud using Commvault and conducting regular upgrades; executing storage migrations; consolidating data centers; and managing Pure Storage solutions (hardware and software).
- Strong knowledge of data protection and storage systems, particularly Dell and Net App solutions (ONTAP, Snap Mirror, Snap Vault).
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Power Shell and Python for automating tasks; proficiency with UNIX systems (IBM AIX, Linux, Client-UX) and networking hardware.
- Ability to design and manage scalable cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, GCP, and IBM Cloud.
- Strong verbal and written communication, effective time management, attention to detail, and the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
This classification requires, within the last eight (8) years, a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Senior Backup Solutions Architect or similar, for data protection systems (such as Comm Vault and Comm Vault Cloud), including configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting within enterprise environments; six (6) years of experience with storage solutions from Dell/EMC, IBM, Net App, and Pure Storage, covering both midrange and enterprise-class storage arrays;
and seven (7) years of experience using, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting cloud-based backup, servers, and storage systems in enterprise settings.
This classification requires a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or Computer Science field, and credentials as a Commvault Certified Professional Administrator. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education and Commvault Certified Professional Administrator credentials on a year-for-year basis.
