Overview
Volunteer - South East LA Area role at Think Together. This is an in-person volunteer position in the South East Los Angeles Region. Volunteers collaborate with an assigned Program Leader who works with a group of students; the student to staff ratio is contingent upon CDC guidelines.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with an assigned Program Leader that works with a group of students (in-person setting), maintaining high standards for behavior and safety by implementing the Think Together four core agreements:
Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible, Have fun. - Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, and attitude.
- Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging that kids want to be in.
- Support students in making positive behavior choices.
- Identify student needs and communicate with Program Leader and Site Coordinator.
- Participate in staff development activities (optional at-will opportunity).
- Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment materials provided by the program.
- Collaborate directly with a Program Leader with a group of 20-25 students in a classroom setting, implementing classroom strategies.
- Support with daily snack preparation, serving and cleanup.
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and ongoing maintenance to keep the site clean and orderly.
- Maintain student safety by supporting the Program Leader.
- Provide learning support and engaging student experiences using program design and curricular models through Think Together’s strategic partnerships.
- Create and utilize engagement strategies to promote positivity, encouragement and excitement for learning.
- Work collaboratively with team members.
- Arrive punctually and communicate volunteer availability with the Site Coordinator; maintain regular communication regarding schedule and potential absences.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to speak and write standard English appropriate in a public-school setting.
- Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting) DOJ Clearance.
- Provide negative TB test dated within the last 3 years.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Support English-learner population by being bilingual (Spanish preferred).
- Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment materials provided by the program.

- Create engagement strategies to foster positivity and excitement for learning.
- Moderate noise typical of a school setting with children at play.
- Standing, walking, sitting; use of hands and arms for reaching and handling; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; talking and hearing.
- May require lifting 10 to 25 pounds.
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
- Ability to speak or write a language other than English (Spanish, Vietnamese) is helpful.
