Position: Family Transportation Driver

Summary:
The primary function of the Family Transportation Driver is to ensure that children and families experiencing homelessness are safely and reliably transported to and from educational, enrichment, and supportive services. This includes transportation for children to and from school, after-school programs, school-based activities, educational meetings (including IEP meetings and parent-teacher conferences), extracurricular activities, community events, and off-site educational programs, as well as transporting families to appointments, meetings, and agency-related services.

The Family Transportation Driver may also transport adults and/or agency supplies as needed to support program and operational needs.

Reports To: Education and Employment Director

Classification Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Responsibilities: (to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation)

• Operates within Du Page Pads  Core Values and Trauma-Informed Policies.
• Serves as the primary transportation support for families and children experiencing homelessness.
• Transports children to and from school, after-school programs, tutoring, extracurricular activities, and enrichment programs.
• Provides transportation for educational meetings including IEP meetings and parent-teacher conferences, as well as other school-based events.
• Transports families to off-site educational events, workshops, community learning opportunities, appointments, and agency-related services.
• Transports adults and/or agency supplies when required by the agency.
• Provides transportation during evening and weekend hours.
• Plans and establishes safe and efficient transportation routes and schedules.
• Assists children and family members needing accommodation in and out of the vehicle.
• Demonstrates knowledge of child safety practices, including proper use of car seats, booster seats, seat belts, and other age-appropriate safety restraints, and ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations.
• Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintains orderly conduct of all passengers and reports unsafe acts or conditions.
• Cleans and services the vehicle and reports needed repairs.
• Works as part of a team to provide support and assistance when needed.
• Prepares and submits required transportation documentation in a timely manner.
• Participates in program planning, evaluation, trainings, and team meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to safely operate a large vehicle.
• Strong interpersonal and engagement skills.
• Effective written, oral, and crisis intervention skills.
• Effective planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Computer literacy in Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, poverty, and mental health preferred.

Education / Experience:

• Valid Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) clearance.
• Previous professional driving experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Other:

• Full-time schedule required with availability to work evenings and weekends.
• Provide own transportation to and from work; agency provides vehicle for conducting services.
