Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
The VP Taxes role encompasses three main areas of responsibility for the company:
- Development and implementation of global tax planning and strategy
- Management of tax compliance, tax returns and audits
- Preparation of tax provisions for financial reporting, in cooperation with corporate accounting
This highly visible role requires a tax professional who can operate at both a strategic level and a detailed, hands-on level with specific activities that include:
- Understanding company strategic initiatives while building strong relationships and trust with Senior Management and management across the company to encourage appropriate and timely involvement of the tax department in opportunities and foster effective tax planning
- Developing accurate tax provision calculations for quarterly and year-end close
- Reviewing the tax footnote and tax reporting in the Company’s SEC filings
- Managing the tax compliance calendar which includes income and franchise tax filings for IRS and 40 state returns
- Assuring proper tax compliance and filings in foreign jurisdictions
- Supporting the Company’s acquisition strategy by conducting tax due diligence, recommending optimal transaction structure, and assisting in post-close integration efforts
- Ensuring SOX requirements are met by developing strong controls over tax function and maintaining close cooperation with the accounting and treasury functions
- Assisting divisions/subsidiaries on sales/use tax, property tax, payroll tax, and FET (heavy trucks) issues
- Researching new tax laws, regulations and cases for effect on company tax planning, filing and FIN 48/ASC 740 requirements
- Coaching the tax team to drive for excellence
- Engaging and leveraging external resources effectively
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Tax required
- MST, MBA, or JD beneficial
- CPA preferred
- Minimum of 10 years tax experience required;
International exposure highly desirable - Minimum of 3 years public company reporting
- Outstanding analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Effective project and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high quality results
- Self-motivated and self-managing drive for results, and able to work and lead in a team environment
- Proficient in the language of ASC 740 and FIN 48
- RIA, CCH, Tax Notes, and/or BNA tax research experience required
- Familiar with various tax software compliance solutions
