Overview

The Patient Representative Van Driver (PRVD) acts as a greeter to patients entering Zufall Health Center sites, including the medical and dental vans. The PRVD will answer telephone calls, complete registration, conduct intake, drive the van to assigned sites, ensure van safety, perform pre‑ and post‑use checks, manage van maintenance, and support the mission and vision of the Zufall Health Center.

Essential Functions,

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Consistently adhere to all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct all aspects of the job in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, using available resources for problem resolution.
  • Complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to assure optimal outcomes of care and service.
  • Utilize departmental resources prudently and appropriately.
  • Use communication methods that create and foster a positive image of the department.
  • Communicate appropriately both verbally and in writing; identify and resolve work‑related issues.
  • Keep manager or supervisor informed of work‑related issues at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as determined by supervisor.
Specific Duties (Interaction with Patients)
  • Greet all visitors and instruct them on processes.
  • Greet patients and visitors promptly, pleasantly, and helpfully in person and on the telephone.
  • Answer the telephone, make appointments, respond to inquiries.
  • Ensure patients bring supporting documentation to visit.
  • Remind patients of appointment time, documentation needed, immunization records for new pediatric appointments, and schedule or reschedule appointments.
  • Explain processes and forms to patients as needed.
  • Conduct eligibility checks on insurances.
  • Collect payments from patients, enter the payment in eCW, and print receipts.
  • Communicate with the medical staff regarding patients’ visits.
  • Assist with printing requisitions or other forms as needed.
Additional Duties for a Van Driver
  • Maintain van cleanliness and organization at all times.
  • Manage cash collection and keep accurate petty cash records; turn in collections daily to main site.
  • Assist patients on and off the van.
  • Maintain water and gas supplies; evaluate daily.
  • Ensure the van is plugged in at the end of the day and charged as needed.
  • Maintain a quiet, professional atmosphere; only approved children's movies may be played.
  • Ensure all occupants travel safely with seat belts and all equipment and supplies are stored safely.
  • Order office supplies as needed.
  • Communicate in advance with the clinical staff assigned to the van.
  • Confirm the event address is clear and correct.
  • Maintain a maintenance record and inform the Director of Operations when the van needs repairs or maintenance.
Communication
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Answer inquiries from patients and the public in person or by telephone; refer to appropriate department when necessary.
  • Read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English and Spanish sufficiently to perform duties.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses a CDL license to operate large mobile vans with air brakes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to be flexible to change.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt and learn in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
  • Ability to understand, carry out, and remember verbal and written instructions.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish required.

Education, Training and

Experience:

  • High‑school diploma required; college credit or additional education in medical field or insurance and billing courses preferred.
  • Current, unrestricted New Jersey CDL operator license issued by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles and pass an annual background driving record check.
  • Minimum 6 months experience operating a large van that uses air brakes.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in customer service field, and 1 year experience in collecting money or billing and insurance.
  • Experience in a clinical/ambulatory care setting preferred.

Salary: $21.50–$24.92 per hour
