Summary Statement

Principal responsibilities include the planning, requirements, design, coding, testing, debugging, system integration, and documenting of software components of complex, multi-tier government systems.

  • Responsible for evaluating user requests for new programs, modifications to existing programs, and system integration of off the shelf products.
  • Performs research and gathers relevant data to determine feasibility, appropriateness, and cost and time required.
  • Prepares detailed estimates in order to obtain approval to proceed.
  • Prepares detailed program specifications.
  • Develops software according to approved specifications, tests and debug programs for the delivery of quality applications.
  • Creates system and user documentation.
  • Monitors ongoing program and system performance.
  • Provides training and mentors less experienced team members.

The Sr. Software Engineer must be a fast learner with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and able to work with minimal supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Sr. Software Engineer must be able to work well with a diverse group of team members to deliver software solutions on time, on budget and within specifications.

The Sr. Software Engineer will report to the Application Development Manager responsible for the particular application area.

Selective Requirement

Applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualification
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree is preferred, with emphasis in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Networks, Security, I/T Discipline or a related field.
  • Possess professional certifications commensurate with advanced to expert technical capabilities.
  • Minimum of two years of formal training in application-specific languages, databases, utilities preferred.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum four years of technical experience with medium to large software environment that includes, but not limited to, experience in producing reliable program code, integration of modules, writing conversion or interface programs, comprehensive unit, and system testing.
  • Minimum two years of experience in any programming .NET or Java.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with Microsoft Office applications and virtual meeting tools.
Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory fingerprint based criminal background check administered by the Delaware State Police is required as a Condition of Hire.
