Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant provides personal medical care and assistance with daily living activities that improve patients’ quality of life. The role is performed in various settings and requires a commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform, assist, evaluate and document medical care, such as basic first aid
  • Measure weight and vital signs
  • Provide catheter and bowel care, including input/output monitoring
  • Conduct range‑of‑motion and other therapeutic exercises as directed
  • Assist with ambulation, transfers and positioning using wheelchairs and other equipment
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary needs
  • Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, shaving, skin and nail care, oral hygiene, dressing and eating
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete required patient/family and company records after each visit
  • Notify the RN Nursing Supervisor of significant changes in patient condition
  • Perform hands‑on personal care and simple procedures when authorized by state law and physician orders

Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED*
  • Current, unrestricted certification or proof of training as required by the state
  • Current CPR certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation and compliance with aide care policies
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Not applicable if the patient is the child or loved one of the CNA
Ongoing Education

An aide must receive at least 12 hours of in‑service training during each 12‑month period. In‑service training may occur while an aide is furnishing care to a patient.

  • Reposition patients and move equipment without assistance
Environment

Must be able to function in a variety of environments, including exposure to allergens and other conditions. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
