General Summary

The Cancer Institute Manager is accountable for the system-wide clinical and operational functions of the Bayhealth Cancer Institute staff on both hospital campuses and in the community that includes cancer patient navigation, survivorship, clinical trials, genetic counseling, and other cancer supportive care programs. Also responsible for all grants, community outreach programs including cancer screening and prevention services, and for availability of funding for those in need.

Collaborates with other members of the oncology leadership team to assure timely, effective and appropriate care is delivered within productivity and budgetary standards.

Responsibilities
  • Cancer Patient Navigation Program:
    Oversees the performance of Cancer Nurse Navigators and administrative functions of the Cancer Patient Navigation Program. Ensures accreditation standards are met with survivorship, and timely navigation of cancer patients. Works collaboratively with the Medical Director of the Bayhealth Cancer Institute assuring effective and timely resolution of all issues. Collaborates with Service Line leadership on the navigation of cancer patients.
  • Clinical Research Program:
    Oversees the performance of the Clinical Coordinator – Clinical Trials and associated staff in the Bayhealth Cancer Institute’s Clinical Research Program. Ensures all accreditation and national cooperative group enrollment targets ures compliance with regulatory standards and audit controls.
  • Genetic Counseling Program:
    Oversees the performance of the Bayhealth Cancer Institute’s Telegenetics Program. Ensures and monitors process for the timely delivery of genetic counseling results.
  • Cancer Supportive Care Program:
    Oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of cancer supportive care programs (i.e. psychosocial assessments, support groups). Ensures and monitors patient referrals to appropriate programs.
  • Community Outreach and Education Program:
    Assures system-wide cancer screenings are appropriate by type of screening, audience and geography/community. Manages all cancer outreach services assuring selection of the most appropriate venues and assigning appropriate resources (i.e., staffing) for scheduled events. Ensures all accreditation standards are met with Bayhealth’s community outreach plan each calendar year.
  • Programmatic Development:
    Collaborates with the Senior Director of Operations, Oncology Service Line on future planning and offerings set by the Oncology Service Line physician leadership. Collaborates with Service Line leadership on the implementation of new programs.
  • Grants and Contracts:
    Monitors staff activities assuring grant-funded staff follow all funding guidelines. Coordinates all grant reports with the Bayhealth Foundation assuring timely and complete submission of all reports, invoices, etc.; monitors financial status at least quarterly and requests grant changes as needed
  • All other duties as assigned within scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education:

    Bachelor Degree Nursing Or Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare.
  • Credential(s):
    Registered Nurse
  • Experience:

    Required:

    Five years management/supervisory experience, to include experience with leading multidisciplinary teams. Prior experience with program management and physician relationships. Prior experience in a matrixed environment and program development.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education:

    Master Degree Nursing, Master Degree Health Care or Master Degree Business Administration
  • Credential(s):
    Oncology Certified Nurse, Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives
  • Experience:

    Preferred:
    Six+ years experience in related healthcare role. Outpatient oncology managerial experience or other clinical area management experience. Prior experience with cancer program management and/or physician practice management.
