General Summary

The staff Speech Pathologist has the primary responsibility for direct patient care activities. This position is a Delaware licensed Speech Pathologist professional who is capable of evaluating patients and delivering appropriate individualized treatment based on patient assessment/needs and medical condition. The Speech Pathologist must be able to provide services across the lifespan and work in both outpatient and inpatient settings as appropriate to the employee’s skill set and department requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Provision of Care/Services – provides comprehensive evaluations and treatments to patients across the lifespan as appropriate; modifies treatment and plan of care as indicated; incorporates a variety of treatment techniques; prioritizes daily activities; focuses on achieving the greatest well‑being; collaborates with nursing and allied health staff; demonstrates competence on departmental skills checklists.

  • Documentation/Data Management – ensures documentation is timely, accurate and completed by end of work shift; reflects performance of procedures and treatments in the plan of care and physician prescription; ensures documentation in the patient record is sufficient for other staff; complies with legal, departmental, organizational, accrediting agency policies including protocols; bills patients accurately and completes billing on the same day as treatment;

    collects accurate and timely data per department requirements.

  • Communication – maintains ongoing and effective collaboration between front office and other therapy staff; provides the Manager with ongoing feedback of patient and/or departmental concerns; facilitates internal and external communication by participating in collaborative relationships with other health practitioners and the public at large.

  • Fiscal Responsibilities – demonstrates a positive commitment to departmental fiscal accountabilities and goals; complies with established departmental productivity standards.

  • Department Participation – takes responsibility for content presented at all staff meetings; attends and actively participates in departmental in‑services/meetings; participates in appropriate educational programs; may attend continuing education courses that benefit organizational objectives; may serve on departmental/organizational committees as approved by the Manager.

  • Oversight – appropriately utilizes, communicates with and oversees the activities of support staff, students and volunteers as directed; completes all necessary paperwork related to student assessment as required by affiliating school.

  • Performance Improvement – accurately identifies, understands, and participates in Performance Improvement activities within the department; demonstrates knowledge and understanding of current organizational Performance Improvement initiatives; communicates with the Manager to utilize current Performance Improvement data to improve clinical outcomes and achieve “best practice” standards of care.

  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education:

    Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Credential(s):
    Licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist;
    Certified Clinical Competence Speech‑Language Pathology;
    Basic Life Support.
  • Experience:

    Preferred – one year of experience in inpatient or outpatient setting.
