Job Description: Inspector I

The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Inspector I in the Code Enforcement division. The primary duties of this position are to perform property maintenance inspections for code compliance.

• Conducting housing inspections
• Performing exterior property inspections
• Responding to citizen complaints
• Working with property owners to achieve compliance
• Following up on licenses and permits

• High school diploma or GED
• Possess an International Property Maintenance Code and/or International Residential Code Certification (or be able to obtain such certifications within 12 months of employment).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• Equivalent of one (1) year of college or specialized vocational training in criminal justice, law enforcement, construction, or a closely related field in code compliance is preferred
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

A criminal background investigation and driving record review will be required. Candidates may be given a job‑related test during the interview.
