Qualifications- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and/or Spanish
- Student teaching reflected on an official transcript
- Must hold or be eligible for a State of Delaware Initial or Continuing License
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware certification as a Spanish Teacher (Secondary)
Results for Oral Proficiency Test (OPT/OPI) and Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) must be Advanced-High, Superior, or Distinguished.
PreferredExperience with Advanced Placement Spanish courses and/or Dual Enrollment.
General DescriptionThe High School Spanish Teacher plays a critical role in developing students' proficiency in the Spanish language and deepening their understanding of other cultures. This individual is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in alignment with World Language standards. The teacher will foster global awareness, cultural appreciation, and effective communication skills necessary for college, career, and civic readiness.

- Select instructional goals aligned with district curricula.
- Plan and deliver lessons that integrate interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication modes. Instructional planning demonstrates thoughtful sequencing, meaningful practice opportunities, and cultural integration.
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge in Spanish language acquisition and Hispanic cultures. Instruction aligns with district curriculum frameworks and promotes real-world language application.
- Show understanding of adolescent developmental characteristics, varied learning profiles, cultural backgrounds, and student interests.
- Create and/or select formative and summative assessments aligned with instructional goals, including performance-based assessments and proficiency measures.
- Establish clear procedures and routines that maximize instructional time and promote student engagement.
- Maintain high behavioral expectations and respond to student conduct in effective, respectful ways.
- Foster a classroom atmosphere that values diversity, risk-taking in language learning, and mutual respect.
- Organize and manage classroom space and instructional resources to support interactive and communicative learning.
- Deliver instruction that is clear, coherent, culturally responsive, and appropriately paced. Materials and activities engage all learners and promote authentic language use.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including heritage speakers and students with varying proficiency levels.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in Spanish as appropriate to student level.
- Use questioning techniques that promote higher-order thinking and student discourse in the target language.
- Provide timely, descriptive feedback; encourage self-assessment; and use data to guide instructional adjustments.
- Maintain effective communication with families regarding student progress and program expectations.
- Keep accurate records of student performance, IEP data, attendance, and other required documentation in compliance with district policies.
- Participate in professional development aligned with district goals and personal professional growth.
- Engage in reflective practice to continuously improve instructional effectiveness.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, administrators, and families.
