Long-Term Substitute Teacher
Position Title: Long-Term Substitute Teacher (Career Readiness Teacher)
Reports To: School Principal or Designee
Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time
Location: Early College School
Duration: 1/5/2026-5/22/2026
Position Summary
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher will provide high-quality instruction and maintain a productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management, flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting scholar success. This role requires continuity of instruction, collaboration with staff, and consistent communication with scholars and families.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Classroom Management
- Deliver daily lessons aligned with the curriculum, pacing guides, and teacher-provided plans (if available).
- Develop and implement lesson plans when necessary to ensure continuity of learning.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Use effective classroom management strategies to support scholar engagement and behavior.
Scholar Support
- Assess scholar progress through assignments, class activities, and informal assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback and academic support to scholars.
- Ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented for scholars with special needs.
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, co-teachers, and support staff as needed.
- Communicate professionally with families regarding scholar progress or classroom concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assignments, and grades (if applicable).
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Participate in required meetings, trainings, and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid Delaware teaching certification or substitute teaching permit (or eligibility to obtain).
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules, needs, and classroom environments.
Preferred
- Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience.
- Experience working in diverse school communities.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and monitor scholars for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials (up to 20 lbs).
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced educational setting.
