Secondary Math Instructional Coach (Grades 6-12)

Terms of Employment

10 month position - temporary for the school year

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
    • Lead implementation and alignment of Delaware Math Standards and practices in grades 6–12.
    • Support adoption and refinement of pacing guides, scope and sequence documents, and high-quality instructional materials (HQIM).
    • Guide the development and analysis of common formative and summative assessments aligned to district and state benchmarks.
    • Support strategic use of benchmark, SAT, and DeSSA data to inform Tier 1 instruction and intervention strategies.
    • Support state-required curriculum mandates and desk audits as assigned.
    • Provide cross-curricular math integration support for content-area teams as appropriate.
  • Instructional Coaching and Professional Learning
    • Provide direct support to teachers and instructional teams through coaching cycles, classroom modeling, and feedback.
    • Facilitate PLCs and professional learning aligned to Learning Forward standards and district initiatives.
    • Design and lead engaging professional development (in-person, virtual, and small group) that emphasizes Focus, Coherence, and Rigor.
    • Support instructional teams in implementing Universal Design for Learning and MTSS strategies for diverse learners.
    • Plan and lead the district’s annual technology conference.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making and Equity Support
    • Conduct data analysis to support instructional improvement and student achievement in math.
    • Provide differentiated coaching and support to address the needs of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and gifted students.
    • Collaborate with school-based teams to use assessment data to inform planning and targeted intervention.
  • Instructional Technology and Innovation
    • Promote and support integration of digital tools and blended learning platforms to enhance mathematics instruction.
    • Model and encourage use of AI and adaptive technologies that support personalized learning in math.
  • Collaboration, Leadership, and Strategic Projects
    • Participate in state math cadres, Capital Strategic Intent committees, and district curriculum planning teams.
    • Collaborate with building administrators and instructional leaders to align school goals to district math initiatives.
    • Support department chairs and math leads with curriculum updates and data reflection protocols.
    • Contribute to cross-district work groups focused on continuous improvement of secondary mathematics programs.
  • Other Duties
    • Provide flexible on-site support across secondary schools and maintain consistent communication with staff.
    • Support the district's Gifted and Talented plan for grades 6-12.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
    • Summer hours scheduled based on availability, funding, and district priorities.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree with Delaware certification in Secondary Mathematics required
    • Master’s degree preferred (Instructional Leadership, Curriculum, or related field)
    • Minimum of 5 years of successful middle or high school math teaching experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of standards-based math pedagogy, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving instruction
    • Experience coaching or mentoring teachers in secondary mathematics
    • Strong collaboration, communication, and adult facilitation skills
    • Experience using instructional technology and data systems to support learning and feedback
