Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Reports to Manager of Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Paramedic is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care.
  • Practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders. Support treatment in the hospital emergency department (ED) at the direction of the physician and/or the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) that directs plan of care, team goals, and performance.
  • Cover the range of services provided in a medical treatment facility in accordance with O.C.G.A. 31‑11‑59 and hospital-specific duties. Promote and restore patients  health and the overall patient experience by collaborating with physicians, RNs, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Uphold the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals as part of the patient services team.
  • Assist with patient care treatment in the ED and participate in education of patients and families.
  • Assist with intake by greeting and interviewing patients and inputting pertinent medical information into the computer system.
  • Perform and assist with diagnostic testing and procedures such as EKGs, cardiac monitoring, venipuncture, point-of-care testing, wound care, applying orthopedic devices and equipment, and splints or casts within scope of practice.
  • Perform functions delegated by the RN, including: initiate IV, administer oral, IM and some IV medications, glucose monitoring, ISTAT testing.
  • Transport patients to the ICU and monitor critical patients; manage patient flow in the ED.
  • Execute command center technician duties and monitor tech duties as assigned.
  • Receive EMS patients into the ED and assist RN with initial triage and assessment; assist with education of patient and family.
  • Respond to Trauma Alerts, Code Fast, STEMI Alerts as assigned.
  • Ensure rooms are patient-ready, stock rooms, and maintain infection control practices between patients.
Qualifications
  • Required Minimum Education: High School graduate or GED. Graduation from an accredited paramedic training program.
  • Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Provisional or PALS – Instructor
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Provisional or ACLS – Instructor
    • Paramedic
  • Additional License(s) and Certification(s): (as applicable)
  • Required

    Minimum Experience:

    Completion of accredited paramedic program and associated clinical hours. Required and minimum 2 years' experience as a paramedic in the field or in a hospital setting. Preference for relevant experience.
