Overview

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Department of Corrections Field Services Division is hiring a full-time probation and parole agent for the Douglas location. This Division is responsible for the community supervision and case management of probationers and parolees. Location information: Douglas is located on the North Platte River and is known as the “Home of the Jackalope.” Douglas offers historical and outdoor recreation nearby. Casper and Cheyenne are just over an hour away in either direction. Wyoming has no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The listed functions are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.

  • Create a positive and collaborative environment for clients to gain the confidence to change their behavior in the long term.
  • Maintain supervision of a caseload of adult probationers and parolees, including supervision of misdemeanor and felony cases (e.g., alcohol/drug offenses, sex offenses, domestic violence, theft, burglary, or clients found not guilty by reason of mental illness).
  • Utilize and analyze validated risk and needs assessments to determine appropriate supervision levels and develop individual case planning goals.
  • Collaborate with government and private entities to enhance case management and support for long-term client change.
  • Identify external and internal motivators of change via motivational interviewing and other interviewing techniques to aid in case plan development.
  • Understand intervention, incentives, and sanctions within the criminal justice system; provide and utilize appropriate interventions, incentives, and sanctions to achieve desired behaviors.
  • Facilitate cognitive intervention groups and apply evidence-based cognitive interventions to enhance client motivation.
  • Maintain supervision standards to promote public safety and assist offenders in reintegrating as law-abiding citizens.
  • Document all case management collaborative efforts in a case management system.
  • Conduct visits with clients in offices, homes, places of employment, or other locations to verify compliance and support positive behavior.
  • Maintain supervision standards including documentation, collateral contacts to promote public safety, and client accountability.
  • Collaborate with the Prison Division on reentry planning for inmates released into the community.
  • Prepare reports to the Parole Board, Courts, or other stakeholders, incorporating investigation, insight, and analysis with data from various agencies and assessments to determine risk level and supervision appropriateness.
  • Interview, evaluate, and investigate offender background and criminal history to determine risks and needs.
  • Interview victims for presentence investigations, restitution determinations, and recommendations to the Court; engage with victims for education and safety throughout supervision to foster collaboration and trust.
PREFERENCES

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Administration of Justice, with progressive work experience in Probation and Parole (including case management, risk/need assessments, cognitive skills group facilitation, interpersonal communication, investigations, report writing, and understanding behavioral change).

KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of human behavior, crisis behavior, substance use, abuse, and addiction
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, department policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of criminal and legal law
  • Knowledge of procedures used in criminal justice agencies and cognitive behavior programs
  • Knowledge of various computer software programs, including Google and Microsoft
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with offenders and professionals
  • Ability to be a positive, pro-social role model for offenders
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in stressful situations
  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources
