Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel-powered waste and recycling fleet vehicles (front-loaders, rear-loaders, roll-offs) including brakes, air systems, suspensions, steering, hydraulics and basic electrical/engine systems. Complete DOT inspections, document work in maintenance systems, maintain shop safety/organization, and collaborate with operations to minimize downtime. Requires 3–5+ years diesel mechanic experience (fleet/heavy equipment preferred), commercial air brake experience, basic computer skills, valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) and own basic tools.
What You’ll Do
As a Level B Diesel Mechanic, you’ll perform maintenance and repairs on a modern fleet of waste and recycling vehicles, including front-loaders, rear-loaders, roll-offs, and support equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and general repairs on diesel trucks and equipment
Diagnose and repair brake systems, air systems, suspensions, steering, and hydraulics
Assist with electrical troubleshooting and basic engine diagnostics
Complete DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety and compliance standards
Work closely with operations to minimize downtime and keep routes running
Accurately document repairs and inspections using GFL maintenance systems
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop following GFL safety policies
