Department InformationMust have a high school diploma or GED; must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License and a safe driving record. Must pass a criminal history check and an extensive background investigation of work and personal history. No felony convictions and no serious misdemeanor convictions. Ability to pass medical, physical fitness, psychological, voice stress/polygraph examinations, as well as a drug screen and a credit check.
Possess analytical decision-making skills to identify problems, weigh solutions and recognize alternatives and their implications independently and quickly. Possess interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse public. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holiday schedules in any weather conditions. May be required to remain on duty beyond normal shift and/or be available to report for duty without prior notice due to emergencies or manpower shortages.
Campus police patrol the college grounds enforcing Georgia laws, City ordinances, and College rules and regulations. Patrol officers are responsible for protection of life and property by providing a police presence throughout the campus. Identifies potential security and safety hazards; controls and regulates traffic and parking; conducts and/or supervises investigation and documentation of crimes and incidents.
Responsibilities- Patrol - Patrols the campus and its jurisdictional boundaries by vehicle, golf cart, or on foot to deter and enforce violations of laws, ordinances, and/or college policies.
- Responds to Calls - Responds to calls for protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, calls for service, and complaints.
- Security - Protects life and property by providing security checks of campus buildings and vehicles parked on college property.
- Investigations - Conducts investigations into criminal, non-criminal, and traffic violations by gathering evidence and interviewing complainants, victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informants.
- Training - Fulfills training and educational requisites to meet POST and departmental standards in order to improve job performance by broadening skills and knowledge.
- Community Relations - Serves as a liaison and public relations officer for the campus community and the public.
- Policies and Procedures - Enforces College policies and regulations. Adheres to departmental, SGSC, and USG policies.

Other Required Qualifications
High school diploma/GED and related work experience.
Certification from the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia or successful completion of such certification by the end of the probationary period.
Proposed SalaryCommensurate with certification or non-certification.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesABILITIES
Ability to comprehend documents to include citations, affidavits and warrants.
Ability to identify evidence and substances that provide the basis of criminal offenses and infractions and that indicate the presence of dangerous conditions.
Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and to deal with coworkers, students, faculty and staff tactfully and courteously in order to maintain effective service-oriented relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
Exercises independent judgment in determining when there is reasonable suspicion to detain, when probable cause exists to search and arrest and when force may be used and to what degree.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques, applicable federal and state laws, college regulations, and Police Department Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
Demonstrates a basic knowledge of CPR, First Aid, and AED operation.
