Location

Douglas Campus is located at 100 West College Park Drive, Douglas, GA 31533. Waycross Campus is located at 2001 S. Georgia Pkwy, Waycross, GA 31503. Valdosta Entry Program is located at 1500 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31698.

Department Information

This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Success.

Job Summary

Performs individual, group, and crisis intervention counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, and academic difficulties. Makes appropriate referrals for services by consulting faculty, staff, and students. This position also includes responsibilities for coordinating college policies and procedures relating to counseling services, tracking college progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to counseling services.

This is a Grant Funded/Limited Term position.

Responsibilities
  • Counselling Services — Provides individual and group counseling services to students.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned — Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Programming — Develops and plans programming that strengthens students’ holistic well-being.
  • Campus Training — Assists in the planning and implementation of needed campus training on mental health topics.
  • Assists Students — Assists students struggling with academic uncertainty and lack of resilience.
  • Documentation — Completes accurate documentation and maintains case files.
  • Crisis Intervention Services — Provides crisis intervention services as needed both during and after hours.
  • Outreach Services — Provides outreach to various campus communities and acts as a resource for the campus community.
  • Consultation & Referral — Provides consultation and referral services.
  • Retention & Engagement Activities — Works with the Student Success team to increase retention and engagement.
  • Participates in initiatives to support student success and retention.
Required Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements — Master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or related field of study.
  • Other Required Qualifications — Licensed in the State of Georgia as Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist.
  • Required Experience — One (1) year of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Experience — Previous experience working with students or college-aged adults.
Proposed Salary

Commensurate with Experience.

ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain and organize records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan, market, implement, and evaluate relevant programming for students at campus locations.
  • Ability to form and maintain effective counseling relationships, monitor progress, and terminate therapy appropriately.
  • Ability to communicate orally, in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and prepare documents.
  • Ability to travel to provide counseling services to other campuses and attend meetings.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to apply decisions in accordance with policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the public.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of current counseling practices and methods, and adherence to professional ethical standards.
