Mental Health Technician IV - Crisis (Temporary Observation Unit) This position is located at our Crisis Center located in Dothan, Alabama.
Schedule: Week 1:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday (07:00 am–7:30 pm). Week 2:
Monday, Thursday, Friday (07:00 am–7:30 pm).
Base Pay: $15.00/hr
Position Summary/Function Provide intermediate skilled direct care and oversight to individuals served in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and associated units. Duties include but are not limited to: monitor individuals behaviors and interactions with others, activities of daily living, facilitating educational groups, teaching coping skills, encouraging adherence to treatment requirements, safety observations, and other duties as assigned. This position is an “awake” position;
therefore, no sleeping is permitted while on duty.
- Provide direct care and oversight to individuals served in the CSU and associated units, temporary observation, mobile crisis teams; monitor individuals’ behaviors and interactions with others, activities of daily living, safety observations, and other duties as assigned. Prepare snacks and/or meals as required by facility.
- Visually observe individuals admitted into the unit to ensure safety of those served as well as staff; may be required to perform 1:1 observation.
- Perform unit rounds, assess safety of the unit and individuals in care.
- Note significant changes in behavior and verbalizations, watch for cues of increased anxiety or agitation; report to the clinical team.
- Assist other staff with actively disturbed and/or violent individuals; request back-up personnel when needed.
- Assist in the education of individuals regarding behavioral/emotional techniques and support.
- Prepare food and/or snacks; monitor individuals who may need assistance with eating.
- Assist in transfer and discharge of individuals by assisting with dressing and collecting personal possessions; carry out discharge and transfer procedures.
- Utilize behavioral and crisis intervention techniques to prevent injury and ensure a safe, therapeutic environment; respond to crisis situations appropriately, effectively, and calmly.
- Serve as a positive role model; establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and appropriate boundaries with individuals and/or families.
- Provide educational group facilitation when appropriate.
- Plan, organize, and lead skills-based groups related to social skills, coping skills, self-esteem, relaxation, etc.
- Document groups according to Spectra Care policies and procedures, including adherence to applicable codes and regulations.
- Order, store, and maintain appropriate quantity of food for snacks; maintain pantry stock and discard expired foods.
- Maintain/assist with cleanliness of the unit; adhere to health and sanitation standards; assist with changing bed linens.
- Ensure individual treatment areas are clean and free of clutter; maintain records professionally and per policy; ensure privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA and applicable laws.
- Complete written documentation promptly and accurately; ensure records are updated and progress notes meet standards.
- Support transportation needs: safely operate system vehicles, assist individuals on/off vehicles and with mobility; transport as needed.
- Follow cell phone policy while driving; support individuals with basic living skills and hygiene needs; teach about hygiene and grooming.
- Performs other duties as needed; maintain professional behavior, ethics, and boundaries; participate in shift reporting; be willing to work across units as directed.
- Attend trainings and administrative meetings; ensure documentation is up to date before annual leave; provide support for absent staff as needed.
- Adhere to dress code; perform duties independently and collaboratively; maintain safety of program, individuals, and staff.
- Demonstrate initiative and travel as necessary; maintain professional boundaries; establish relationships with staff and external stakeholders.
- Apply seclusion, protective holds and/or restraints per policy; document crises and interventions; participate in shift end reporting.
