Job Summary

The Teacher Assistant position is responsible for teaching in an infant, toddler, two-year old, three-year old or four-year old classroom program in the Coleman Center, by either co-teaching or teaching independently implementing the lesson plans provided by the Auxiliary Teachers and Teachers, and reports to the Director of Coleman Center.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children in a group format
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum and child development
  • Energetic and positive attitude
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) OR Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field OR at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution
  • Previous experience working with children in a group format in an Alabama DHR licensed child care center
  • Driving

    Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties?

    Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility

    Work Hours

    Part time (up to 19 hours per week)

    Standard hours of operation (7:00 am – 6:00 pm)

    Hours may be flexible, as needed, to meet the demands of the center
