Position SummaryThe health system is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant with a strong background in General Surgery to join its surgical team in Dothan, Alabama.
This role includes a combination of operating room first assist, inpatient rounding, and preoperative/postoperative patient management. You will work closely with surgeons, residents, PAs, RNs, and surgical techs in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Surgical experience is required — inpatient, OR, and procedural exposure strongly preferred.

Essential Position Responsibilities- Serve as first assist during general surgery procedures in the operating room
- Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care, including hospital rounding
- Conduct patient evaluations, history and physicals, and perioperative assessments
- Manage surgical consults and coordinate care plans with the attending surgeon
- Perform bedside procedures as appropriate (e.g., wound care, drain removal, suturing, staple removal)
- Provide education and counseling to patients and families
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and patient safety efforts
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Board-Certified Physician Assistant
- Active Alabama PA license or eligibility to obtain
- BLS and ACLS certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Minimum 1–2 years of surgical experience required
- Prior experience in general surgery, surgical subspecialties, or hospital-based roles strongly preferred
- Strong OR first-assist capabilities
- Excellent procedural competency and clinical judgment
- Ability to multitask effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
