The Staff Accountant supports the daily and monthly accounting operations of a transportation company that is part of a publicly traded organization. This role is responsible for general ledger accuracy, account reconciliations, and financial reporting that aligns with U.S. GAAP, corporate accounting policies, and SOX-related internal controls.
Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End ClosePrepare and post journal entries related to monthly/quarterly/year end close.
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts, ensuring timely resolution of variances.
Analyze general ledger activity for accuracy and proper classification in accordance with GAAP and corporate policy.
Support month-end close timelines required by the parent company.
Corporate Reporting & CompliancePrepare financial schedules required for corporate consolidation and SEC reporting support.
Prepare intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
Help execute SOX internal controls, including documentation, testing, and audit support.
Assist internal and external auditors by providing requested documentation and analyses.
Job Requirements Qualifications RequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting.
Understanding of U.S. GAAP and general ledger principles.
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
2+ years of related experience.
PreferredExperience in the transportation, logistics, or trucking industry.
Experience working in a subsidiary of a publicly traded company or SOX-controlled environment.
