Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Mental Health Nurse (Rehabilitation Mental Health Nurse) band 5 with professional registration to work in the Glendinning Unit in Dorchester. The unit is a 9‑bed inpatient rehabilitation facility that supports both male and female patients with chronic, disabling mental health problems who are preparing to transition back into the community.

The role involves supporting patients in achieving greater independence through therapeutic care, skill development and collaboration with multi‑disciplinary teams.

• Assist the Ward Manager with providing high‑quality nursing care and treatment through multidisciplinary assessment, intervention and care programmes.
• Liaise closely with families, carers, community teams, GPs and other professionals to facilitate a smooth transition to community care.
• Work with patients to acquire or regain the skills and confidence needed for community living, focusing on symptom minimisation and functional improvement.
• Develop therapeutic relationships and engage patients in collaborative goal‑setting and partnership working.
• Contribute to daily structure and provide effective clinical interventions that balance therapeutic needs with support and safety, promoting individual autonomy in the least restrictive environment.

• Band 5 nursing registration with the NMC.
• Experience in inpatient mental health or rehabilitation settings is desirable.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
