Overview
Kingfisher ward is a general paediatric ward which takes babies, children and young people from 0–17 years with a variety of medical, surgical and psychological problems. It has a paediatric assessment area that manages admissions and promotes early discharge, and 3 higher observation beds to support children requiring higher level care within the main ward. The play team supports children throughout the Trust in other acute departments and outpatients.
RoleSummary
The paediatric play assistant has a vital role within the clinical multi‑disciplinary team, working closely with the Play Specialist and nursing team to provide high‑quality care that meets the physical, psychological, emotional and social needs of the children and families.
Responsibilities- Provide fun, therapeutic play opportunities for infants, children and young people during their hospital treatment.
- Tailor play activities to the individualised needs of each child.
- Communicate effectively with children of all ages, supporting them to express thoughts and emotions through play.
- Identify safeguarding concerns and raise appropriate concerns through the relevant safeguarding channels.
- Maintain a safe play environment in line with infection control procedures.
- Ensure the quality and condition of toys and play equipment, keeping them safe and suitable for hospital use.
