There is no pressure to focus on academics initially- the priority is emotional security, trust-building, and steady, supported progress at their pace.
About the Student
- Starting Year 7 after very poor attendance in Year 6
- Has missed a significant amount of education
- Presents with SEMH needs, particularly EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)
- Requires a calm, patient adult who can provide consistency and relational support
Goal:
Build confidence and self-belief before exploring a gentle move toward academic engagement
Role Overview
Position: 1:1 Mentor
Hours:
5 hours per week ( £25 - £30 )
Focus:
Confidence, self-esteem, emotional regulation, connection, engagement-not pressured academics
Start: ASAP
Location:
DT1
Requirements
- At least 6 months' experience in a UK education setting
- SEN/SEMH experience is essential, especially with EBSA learners
- Ability to build trust with a young person who may be anxious or avoidant
- Calm, consistent, and well-versed in relational and trauma-informed approaches
