Dorset Council’s Facilities Management service plays a critical role in ensuring our operational buildings (from offices and libraries to depots and community hubs) are safe, well maintained and ready to support frontline services every day. Under the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) , and through our Effective Property Services (EPS) approach, we are modernising how we manage buildings to ensure consistent standards, professional oversight and excellent service to building users.
As a Facilities Officer, you will be part of a friendly, hands on team delivering essential day‑to‑day facilities support across the operational estate.
Why this role?This is a varied, practical role where no two days are the same. You’ll help ensure Dorset Council buildings are safe, secure, well maintained and welcoming for staff, visitors and service users. Working across multiple sites, you’ll support building compliance, safety routines, soft FM tasks and front facing customer support, all of which contribute to delivering a reliable and effective public estate.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Support the smooth running of all operational buildings by delivering a practical, responsive Facilities Management service.
- Assist with building security, including unlocking/locking duties, site checks and responding to out of hours callouts as part of a rota.
- Help keep buildings safe by supporting fire alarm tests, evacuation drills, Health & Safety inspections and statutory compliance tasks such as periodic legionella testing.
- Carry out minor repairs, office moves, furniture moves and general building support tasks (e.g. room setup).
- Assist with mail handling and secure access systems, including issuing s.
- Act as a trained first aider for the Council (training provided).
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being active, solving practical problems, and working directly with people across a variety of locations.

Further InformationTravel requirement
This role involves regular travel to operational buildings across Dorset. A works vehicle is provided for this purpose, and you must be able to travel between sites as required.
