Assistant Project Engineer - Environment

What you will be doing

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Project Engineer with either an Electrical or Mechanical background to join the team at Galliford Try.

You will work on our Wessex Water Frameworks within our Environment Business to successfully deliver schemes of varying sizes across both Treatment Waste and Water schemes in the South West of England.

Ideally, you will based in or around the Dorchester / Poole area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites / projects in the Region.

Our Environment Business has entrepreneurism and innovation at its heart. Part of your role will be to share market leading suggestions and ideas with the Project Delivery team to lead the way in optimisation and performance.

As the Assistant Project Engineer with Galliford Try, you will work as an integral part of the Project Delivery Team on wastewater projects from early project scoping through to the completion of construction. This includes supporting the construction delivery, helping to ensure site operations run safely and efficiently, assisting with completing site documentation as required, writing reports, and ensuring consistent standards across the project.

Day to day, you will collaborate with other engineers to deliver a safe working site, supporting with compiling and updating plans and works information, identifying any changes and reporting these to the Site Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the full project lifecycle, from planning and investigation through design, construction, and handover
  • Help develop and manage operational documentation for the construction phase
  • Engage and help manage subcontractors through investigation, design, and build stages
  • Facilitate communications between the client, third-party stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure effective scheduling and delivery
  • Attend and contribute to design, progress, and site meetings, monitoring programme progress
  • Participate in internal and external programme reviews and input into financial reporting (e.g., Cost to Complete, budget tracking)
  • Use the company's Common Data Environments (CDE) to follow and maintain established delivery processes and procedures
About You

As well as a passion for your engineering discipline and logical and critical thinking skills, we are seeking individuals with a relevant engineering qualification in your chosen discipline. Experience in a national and multi-site business or Water Industry experience is desirable, but not essential.

You are all about teamwork and able to demonstrate an understanding of what makes an effective team, the value of diversity, the strengths and skills of others and actively support team objectives.

You'll have proven track record of effective time management, able to prioritise objectives to ensure tasks are met to specific deadlines. You're prepared to ask for support from colleagues where necessary. You can demonstrate the ability to remain focused through challenging periods and adapting to changing business needs, with an openness to learning new tasks and different ways of working.

We're seeking somebody with effective communication skills, allowing others to present their points for discussion, challenging the status quo where appropriate, with the ability to provide constructive feedback in a sensitive manner.

Working on site, we'd like you to have ECS, SSSTS, SMSTS, City & Guilds Confined Space Training, City and Guilds Top Man Confined space training, EUSR (Clean Water Hygiene), Appointed Persons for craneage. However, we will support you in covering any training needs.
