Overview
Principal Consultant - Alternative Technologies (Supply Chain Manager, Fixed Term Contract). This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer and provides maternity cover. We are seeking an experienced, proactive leader with strong communication skills and technical expertise to oversee end-to-end supply chain operations, supplier management, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Responsibilities- Supplier Management: identify, assess, and manage qualified suppliers; negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and quality standards; monitor supplier KPIs, manage underperformance, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- Material Sourcing: develop cost-effective sourcing strategies; lead strategic procurement for electrolyser systems; collaborate with R&D, production, and logistics to plan future material needs and ensure efficient storage and transport.
- Cost Control: manage supply chain budgets; identify savings opportunities; optimise supplier terms; track key cost metrics.
- Supply Chain Operations: oversee daily material flow aligned with production schedules; coordinate with internal teams and logistics providers to optimise lead times; manage inventory levels; mentor team members and support workload during absences.
- Risk Management:
develop strategies to mitigate supply chain risks, including shortages and geopolitical factors; maintain contingency plans for critical materials. - Documentation & Compliance: maintain accurate records of contracts and purchasing activities; ensure compliance with regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
- Quality Assurance: set material quality standards with QA teams; monitor supplier performance; conduct audits and support continuous improvement.
- Leadership: lead and develop a high-performing supply chain team; foster collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence; align supply chain objectives with wider business goals.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient with ERP systems, supply chain software, and data analytics.
- Experience managing supply chain risks and working with global suppliers.
- Knowledge of ISO standards and industry compliance.
- 5–7+ years' supply chain management experience, ideally in manufacturing.
- Proven success in supplier management, sourcing, and cost control in complex environments.
- Experience leading a supply chain function within manufacturing or related industries.
Location:
Leeds, England, United Kingdom (and other listed sites as applicable). This role is a fixed-term contract for maternity cover and may involve collaboration with multiple internal teams and external partners.
