Chief Medical Officer

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and values‐driven medical leader who has operated at or close to Board level. This is a visible and influential role, modelling the DBTH way both internally and across our wider system, requiring resilience, credibility, and the ability to quickly build trusted relationships with our Board, colleagues, patients, and partners. You should champion a culture of continuous improvement, bringing energy and drive to engage our clinical teams in building an environment where change is embraced and owned by our people, to shape the future of our services.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration
  • Medical Graduate and Postgraduate Medical Qualification
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent professional experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional and leadership development
Experience
  • Senior leadership experience within an acute provider setting at or close to Board level
  • Substantial experience of medical practice at consultant level
  • Proven track record of leading service improvement and reconfiguration internally and across organisational boundaries
  • Experience of building organisational cultures that promote clinical engagement in decision making
  • Evidence of significant experience in leading and influencing professional groups, and building effective networks at regional and national level, to secure cross‑system change
  • Experience of supporting doctors in difficulty and managing concerns about conduct or capability
Knowledge & Skills
  • In‑depth understanding of the complexities within the healthcare sector including the national strategic context
  • Proven track record of exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and build credibility with colleagues
  • Ability to motivate and set direction whilst communicating vision and leading change through others.
