Don Valley Healthcare is looking fora Healthcare Assistant who would like to join our friendly team who can actively contribute to both high quality patient care, to work within a Practice team, meeting the needs of patients and ongoing development of the role.
Main duties of the job- ECGs
- Wound care
- FENO
- Annual Reviews
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
- Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re‑stocking and stock rotation
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well‑being
- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well‑being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well‑being
The Practice has a patient list size of approximately 13,000 patients across 2 sites.
Our clinical team consists of: 8 G Partners, 5 Salaried GPs, 1 DNP 2 PN's, 1 Nurse Associate, 2 HCA's, 1 Phlebotomist and Pharmacists.
The Practice achieved Outstanding from our last inspection. We are a training practice for:
Doctors, Nurses and Medical Students and are a research ready practice.
Hours to be negotiated and salary will be dependent on skills and experience.
Job responsibilitiesWorking under the direct supervision of the GP’s and nursing team, strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
The post holder will:
- Communicate effectively with all professionals in involved with the patients care
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication
- To build professional rapport with patients
- Provide and receive sensitive information
- To report effectively to the team on patient’s progress and performance in relation to the patient
- To ensure up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professionals standards and are used for the purpose intended
- Participate in practice meetings as appropriate
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Experience in Phlebotomy
- Good Communication Skills
- Demonstrating being able to work as part of a team
- Previous experience in other Healthcare setting.
- Qualified in Vaccinations
- Understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
- Able to work on own initiative
- Able to work under pressure and remain clam
- Flexible and adaptable
- Awareness of blood-borne viruses
- Previous Experience in a Healthcare Setting
- Experience of working in a GP practice
- Ability to proved quality care
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills
- Good team work
- Ability to work independently following verbal or written instructions

- Computer Literate
- Basic IT skills
- Basic first aid
