Manager Data Engineering

About Your Job:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of data engineers to design, build and maintain scalable and secure data products for multiple business divisions within Qatar Airways. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams across the organization to ensure that the data products are accessible, reliable and secure. Additionally, as Manager Data Engineering, you will be expected to drive the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI technologies into data products and solutions.

This includes identifying opportunities for automation and enhanced analytics through AI, overseeing the development and deployment of machine learning models, and ensuring that AI‑driven solutions adhere to ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of Data & AI projects, including data warehouse and data lake implementations, data governance, advanced analytics, and dashboarding solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to the data engineering team to design, develop, optimize and maintain data products.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into data solutions.
• Establish best practices, standards, and processes for data engineering operations.
• Develop and implement a data & AI strategy that aligns with the organization's overall goals.
• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes on cloud.
• Implement and enforce data quality standards for the data products and maintain data product SLAs.
• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of AI models and data pipelines to support business operations and decision‑making.
• Work with data platform & architecture team to secure the data and data products, optimize cloud cost.
• Work with data product owners to define and prioritize data needs.
• Work with data governance team to implement governance processes and standards.
• Stay up to date on the latest data & AI technologies and trends.
• Mentor and coach data engineers on their career development.
• Identify inter‑dependencies between the various stakeholder groups to ensure all are aligned and risks are identified, mitigated and communicated.
• Work closely with business leaders (VPs and above), in a multi‑cultural environment.
• Drive innovation to ensure that solutions drive value to the business.
• Lead the data engineering community of practice.

• Experience & Knowledge:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (Degree in engineering, computer applications, commerce, or business administration).
• 10+ years of experience in data domain, with a mix of Data Engineering and Data Science experience, including at least 4 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record in delivering large‑scale data programs, including data warehousing, data governance, AI/ML solutions, or BI/dashboarding platforms.
• Hands on experience working with Google Cloud Platform and its suite of data & AI services.
• Strong understanding of database technologies (SQL, No
  
  SQL, etc.), data modelling and data warehousing concepts.
• Strong knowledge of data management, statistical analysis, machine learning frameworks, and AI technologies.
• Strong solutioning skills, able to align business requirements with the right technical approaches and resources.
• Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to guide, motivate, and develop a high‑performing team.
