The Pipelay Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing subsea pipeline installation activities for a Marine EPC Project in Qatar. The role involves coordinating pipelay operations (S-lay, J-lay, reel-lay) while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities- Design and review pipelay procedures (installation analysis, layback calculations, stress analysis).
- Coordinate with vessel crew, survey team, and offshore construction team for seamless operations.
- Ensure compliance with DNV, API, ASME, and client specifications for pipeline installation.
- Oversee pipelay vessel operations (e.g., tensioners, abandonment & recovery (A&R), stinger adjustments).
- Monitor pipe welding, field joint coating, and subsea touchdown monitoring.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to pipelay equipment (tensioners, aligners, lay spread).
- Work with surveyors to ensure accurate pipeline positioning (ultra-short baseline (USBL), DGPS).
- Review as-laid pipeline survey reports and ensure compliance with route alignment.
- Enforce HSE policies (IMCA, Qatari regulations) during offshore operations.
- Conduct risk assessments (JSA) and ensure adherence to pipeline integrity standards.
- Education:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Civil, Offshore, or Marine Engineering. - Certifications:
- Subsea pipelay training (Orcaflex, OFFPIPE, or similar).
- Offshore safety certifications (BOSIET, HUET, CA-EBS).
- Experience:
- 5+ years in offshore pipelay operations (S-lay/J-lay/reel-lay).
- Familiarity with pipelay vessels (e.g., Allseas, Saipem, Technip
FMC).
