Telecom Technician – Oil & Gas Location

Job SummaryThe Telecom Technician will be responsible for the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems within Oil & Gas facilities in Qatar. The role ensures uninterrupted and reliable communication systems in compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and Qatari HSE regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, test, and maintain telecom systems, including:
- Fiber optic and copper cabling systems
- PAGA (Public Address & General Alarm) systems
- CCTV, access control, and security systems
- Telephone systems (IP and analog)
- Radio communication systems (VHF/UHF/TETRA)
- Data networks and structured cabling
- Perform cable pulling, termination, splicing, labeling, and testing as per approved drawings and standards.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure system reliability.
- Troubleshoot faults and provide timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Interpret telecom drawings, loop diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, and system handover activities.
- Coordinate with telecom engineers, vendors, and other site disciplines.
- Ensure strict compliance with Qatar Oil & Gas HSE standards, PTW systems, and site regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation including test reports, daily activity logs, and as-built drawings.
- Diploma or ITI in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Telecom Technician in Oil & Gas projects in Qatar or the GCC
. - Proven experience with industrial telecom and ELV systems in hazardous areas.
- Knowledge of international and client standards (IEC, IEEE, ITU, ATEX, QCS where applicable).
- Experience in onshore and/or offshore environments is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Sound understanding of telecom safety and installation practices in Oil & Gas facilities.
- Proficient in the use of test equipment such as OTDR, power meters, and network testers.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Valid H2S certification
- BOSIET / HUET (for offshore roles)
- First Aid and Fire Fighting
- Vendor certifications (Cisco, Siemens, Avaya, Huawei – added advantage)
- Site-based role within Qatar Oil & Gas facilities.
- Willingness to work shifts, extended hours, and remote project locations as required.
