Job Purpose
The
Assistant Driller (AD)supports the Driller in the safe and efficient operation of drilling activities on an offshore jackup rig. This role ensures adherence to
Qatar Energy, Shell,and ADNOC
standards while supervising the drill floor crew during routine and emergency operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drilling Operations Support
- Assist the Driller in operating
topdrive, drawworks, and mud pumps
during drilling, tripping, and casing runs. - Monitor
well parameters
(ROP,SPP, torque) and report anomalies. - Conduct
pipe handling, slips, and tong operations
under the Driller’s supervision.
2. Safety & Compliance
- Participate in
pre‑tour safety meetings
and emergency drills (well control, fire, abandon ship). - Inspect
BOP, choke manifold, and safety equipment
(pre‑shift checks).
3. Crew Supervision
- Direct
Floormen and Roustabouts
in drill floor operations (e.g., making connections, handling tubulars). - Train junior crew on
rig‑specific procedures
(e.g., pipe tallying, stump height checks). - Maintain
rig floor cleanliness and organization
(5S standards).
4. Equipment & Maintenance
- Assist in
preventive maintenance
(lubrication, inspections of drawworks, elevators). - Report
equipment malfunctions
to the Driller/Maintenance team.
5. Reporting
- Document
daily drilling progress
(footage drilled, mud volumes, downtime). - Complete
checklists
(BOP tests, tubular inspections).
Qualifications & Experience
Education: High school diploma (minimum); technical certification in drilling preferred.
Certifications:
- IWCF Well Control Level 3 (required).
- OPITO/BOSIET + HUET (mandatory for Qatar offshore).
- H2S Awareness & Confined Space Entry.
- 5+ years on offshore rigs (3+ years as AD or Senior Floorman).
- Jackup rig experience (preferred: GDI, Shelf Drilling, ADES rigs in Qatar).
- Familiarity with Qatar Energy wellcontrol protocols.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in
drilling calculations
(mudweight adjustments, pipe displacement). - Basic knowledge of
Wellsite Reporting Systems
(e.g., Well View). - Ability to interpret
driller’s console data
.
Teamwork: Coordinates seamlessly with Driller and rig crew.
Alertness: Monitors operations for hazards (e.g., stuck pipe, kicks).
Initiative: Proactively assists in troubleshooting.
Salary:
QAR 12,000–18,000/month (based on experience).
Overtime: 1.5x base rate for extra hours.
