Job DescriptionThe Senior Consultant is the most senior physician within their specialty (after the Department Chair/Section Head), responsible for leading a team of consultants and junior doctors.
They oversee patient care, ensure clinical excellence, and are accountable for all medical decisions under their supervision.
In addition to providing expert-level care, the Senior Consultant contributes to strategic planning, research, teaching, and service development—working closely with leadership on staffing, training, budgeting, and quality improvement.
They serve as a role model in clinical leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities- Delivering direct patient care and clinical supervision
- Leading and mentoring consultants and junior doctors
- Contributing to departmental planning, training, and service development
- Supporting research, education, and public health initiatives
- Ensuring compliance with clinical standards and licensure requirements
- Participating in committees, on‑call scheduling, and policy implementation
- Representing the department internally and externally
