Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and an active IL RN license.

Details
  • Acute care ICU setting with 6 beds
  • Patient ratio of 1:3 for ICU patients, with nurse aides available at a 1:6 ratio
  • Common diagnoses include STEMI, 3rd degree heart block, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, COVID, and influenza
  • Monitor techs are scheduled 24/7; RNs are required to sign off on telemetry strips 3x per shift
  • Day shift RNs are required to attend team conferences
  • Respiratory therapy support available, with equipment ranging from NC to ventilator
  • Titrating drips is required; common agents include Cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, Levophed, vasopressin, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, and Neo-Synephrine
  • PT, OT, SLP, and pulmonary/cardiac rehab services are available on the unit
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor support available
  • 12-hour shifts, 7a–7p (days) and 7p–7a (nights)
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday coverage required
  • Low census (LC) may occasionally occur; no on-call requirement
  • Floating may be required to units where the candidate has prior experience (e.g., Med/Surg, ED, BHC); floating is not required if no relevant experience
  • Epic EMR used
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required (pending licenses are not accepted)
  • Current BLS and ACLS (both AHA) required; PALS and NIH Stroke Scale preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Proficiency in caring for patients on ventilators, temporary pacemakers, balloon pumps, BiPAPs, and hemodynamic monitoring required
  • Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required
  • 2 references required for consideration: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • A negative drug screen for all panels is required; facility is a drug-free campus
Additional Information
  • One full shift of orientation provided, along with a department-specific orientation binder
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable; closed-toe shoes required
  • Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a local pay rate
