Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position at a critical access hospital, requiring a current ND or compact RN license and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Room of a critical access acute care hospital

• Patient population includes pediatrics through geriatrics with all typical emergency presentations

• 14 regular beds and 2 large trauma bays in the department

• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-5, depending on assignment

• Required to interpret and read telemetry strips

• MEDITECH EMR system is used

• Night shifts with weekend and holiday coverage as needed

• Self-scheduling available, though management schedules for travelers

• Floating may be required to MSP and ICU, but not typical

• The unit expects nurses to be motivated self-starters committed to patient satisfaction

• Orientation consists of three 12-hour shifts specific to the department

• Charge nurse is present on every shift

• Support staff includes a CNA functioning as both ward clerk and assistant

• Holiday and weekend coverage is required based on unit needs

• RTO must be requested upfront (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract)

• Failing to pass required fit testing due to facial hair will result in contract cancellation

• Scrub or dress code requirements are not specified; confirmation provided during orientation

Requirements

• Active ND or compact RN license in hand at time of application

• Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in an Emergency Department

• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS (no exceptions)

• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips

• Must provide copy of driver’s license for consideration

• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years

• Must pass fit testing and be able to remove facial hair if required for N95 mask fit

• Candidates may not be currently or recently employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities

• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
