The Sandblaster job role is to prepare surfaces for painting or coating by using a compressed air gun to spray abrasive materials, such as sand, onto the surface. This process is also used to remove rust, corrosion, and old paint from surfaces to create a clean, smooth finish. Sandblasters must take safety precautions when using the equipment and must have the ability to operate a variety of air tools and power tools.
Additionally, they must be able to work efficiently and accurately to meet production goals.
- Inspect and maintain equipment
- Correct use of personal protective equipment
- Repair equipment
- Operate a sandblasting machine to clean, strip, or finish surfaces
- Adjust pressure and flow of sandblasting material and move nozzle to direct material
- Clean and paint sandblast booth
- Cover and protect surrounding areas from sandblasting
- Prepare surfaces for painting or other finishing work
- Paint product
- Prepare materials for installation by operating sandblasting hoses to smooth or clean surfaces
- Sandblast product
- Inspect equipment and work area for safety issues
- Move product in/out of booth
- Safe handling of tools and materials
- Adherent to all safety regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong knowledge of sandblasting equipment and techniques
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools
- Good physical condition and strength
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects
- Attention to safety
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Correct use of personal protective equipment
