Reporting to the Construction Director, the Construction Manager – Foundations is a senior field execution leader responsible for managing and coordinating the installation of helical pile and drilled pier foundation systems on a large-scale transmission line project in the North Central region of the United States.
This role provides technical and execution leadership for foundation scopes involving multiple crews, specialty subcontractors, and geographically dispersed work fronts operating in varied soil conditions and remote environments. The Construction Manager ensures foundation activities are executed safely, in full compliance with design and quality requirements, and aligned with the overall project schedule and downstream construction sequencing.
The position works closely with Project Management, Engineering, Work Methods, Quality, and Field Supervision to support constructability, execution planning, and progressive turnover of completed foundations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Safety- Provide visible safety leadership across foundation work fronts, with a strong focus on hazards specific to helical pile installation, drilled pier construction, augering, casing, grouting, and concrete placement.
- Reinforce compliance with Client, Company, and regulatory safety requirements related to excavation, drilling operations, lifting, working around rotating equipment, and ground disturbance.
- Support field supervision in the development and execution of foundation-specific JSAs, lift plans, and safe work procedures.
- Coordinate with HSE teams to address incident prevention, corrective actions, and safety observations related to foundation activities.
- Ensure all foundation installations comply with IFC drawings, geotechnical reports, specifications, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Oversee quality control activities related to:
- Helical pile torque monitoring and verification
- Drilled pier depth, diameter, alignment, and cleanliness
- Reinforcement placement and cage installation
- Concrete placement, testing, and curing
- Verify hold points, inspections, and testing are completed in accordance with project requirements to support progressive acceptance and turnover.
- Ensure NCRs, RFIs, concessions, and corrective actions related to foundation work are properly managed and closed.
- Provide execution leadership for all assigned helical pile and drilled pier foundation scopes, ensuring work is planned, sequenced, and executed efficiently.
- Coordinate daily and short-interval planning with superintendents and forepersons to align foundation production with project milestones and downstream activities (structure erection, assembly, stringing, etc.).
- Support constructability reviews and execution planning for foundation installation in varying soil conditions, access constraints, and environmental sensitivities.
- Coordinate mobilization, utilization, and demobilization of specialized drilling and piling equipment.
- Ensure specialty subcontractors are properly qualified, aligned, and resourced to meet production and quality expectations.
- Identify and mitigate execution risks related to ground conditions, access, productivity, weather, and equipment availability.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve production rates, reduce rework, and optimize foundation installation methodologies.
- Maintain a strong field presence to support foundation crews with technical guidance and execution oversight.
