Trust Grade Doctor
Job Overview
We are seeking a full‑time Trust Grade Doctor (FY2 level) to join the North Wiltshire Intensive Service (NWIS), based at Green Lane Hospital, Devizes. This newly established post will run from 1 April 2026 (subject to pre‑employment checks) until 4 August 2026.
The position is designed to strengthen the existing medical workforce and provide additional support to the resident on‑call rota. Given the short duration of the appointment and the clinical demands of the service, the post‑holder must be able to work confidently and effectively from the outset, with previous experience in a psychiatry setting and experience working independently on an on‑call rota.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical support to the Consultant Psychiatrist for patients under the care of the Intensive Team.
- Support patients on Bluebell Unit and, on occasion, contribute to clinical care on Poppy Ward, the local acute inpatient ward.
- Participate in the Resident Doctor on‑call rota (1:9 full‑shift pattern) at Green Lane Hospital, which includes late shifts, night shifts and weekend working.
- Under Consultant supervision, perform day‑to‑day assessment, management and treatment of patients, including comprehensive psychiatric care through evaluation, diagnosis and appropriate treatment plans.
- Ensure involvement of families and carers, with patient consent, in treatment planning where possible.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in patient notes, update treatment plans and contribute to discharge and after‑care plans.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and liaise with other doctors, wards and outside agencies (including GPs) to ensure continuity of care.
- Support physical health and psychiatric care for patients admitted to the Place of Safety in Bluebell Unit.
- FY2 medical grade or equivalent clinical experience in psychiatry.
- Previous experience working independently on an on‑call rota.
- Strong clinical assessment and management skills in acute psychiatric settings.
- Effective communication skills across multidisciplinary teams and with patients, families and carers.
- Protected weekly supervision (1 hour) with the supervising Consultant.
- Access to weekly journal clubs and academic meetings.
- Contracted support role in an established multi‑disciplinary team caring for a diverse group of acutely unwell patients.
