NDDOT Starting Salary

Engineering Technician III: $5,008 per month*

Engineering Technician II: $4,505 per month*

Engineering Technician I: $4,131 per month*

We're looking for someone with all types of knowledge and skill level related to Engineering Technology/Highway Construction skills to join our team! Salary is dependent on experience.

Responsibilities

Conduct field inspections for all types of construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. Work with cutting‑edge equipment such as Robotic Total Station GPS, drones, and computer‑aided drafting software such as Micro Station to measure and calculate quantities and create reports and plan sheets for construction projects. Perform tests on road and bridge building materials to ensure they meet NDDOT specifications.

Assist project engineers with checking and organizing project final records, and support district design work that requires the use of Micro Station. Receive necessary training and support to excel in these tasks.

Qualifications
  • Engineering Technician III
    :
    At least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed, or a college‑level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing preferred.
  • Engineering Technician II
    :
    At least two years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed, or a college‑level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing preferred.
  • Engineering Technician I: A high school diploma or GED equivalent and a basic understanding of the concepts needed for this type of work.

At any level, you must be able to work in all types of weather on uneven or slippery surfaces, lift up to 50 pounds, carry several items totalling 50 pounds, and possess a valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license to travel to project locations. Additionally, you should be passionate about construction and engineering, possess strong organizational and communication skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
