The Cartage Specialist plays a critical role in the success of the Motorcycle Safety Program by ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient transport of training motorcycles, cargo trailers, and essential supplies to and from various training sites across the Metro Detroit area. This position requires a high level of responsibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
Job Duties- Load and unload training motorcycles into and out of enclosed cargo trailers, cartage trucks, and storage containers with care and efficiency, securing motorcycles properly to prevent damage during transport
- Deliver and retrieve motorcycles from various training sites across the metro Detroit area in a timely manner
- Conduct pre- and post-transport inspections of motorcycles to ensure they are in a safe, operable condition
- Coordinate with Regional Manager, instructors, and site administrators to ensure motorcycle trailers are properly staged for motorcycle safety classes and delivered during the specified timeframe
- Ensure each training site has all the necessary classroom and range supplies, including but not limited to cones, full gas cans/caddies, spare parts, tools, and first aid kit supplies
- Maintain an inventory checklist to track supply levels at each site, replenishing as needed
- Monitor gas supply in Schoolcraft College cold storage and the Manufacturing & Engineering Center storage containers, filling motorcycles and gas cans/caddies with fresh gas as needed
- Document retrieval date and drop off location of motorcycles requiring service from each site on the Motorcycle Service Log spreadsheet
- Conduct routine checks on cartage trucks and trailers to ensure they are in good working order; report any mechanical issues to Regional Manager and Equipment Manager prior to scheduling and transporting for service or repairs, as necessary
- Perform additional, related duties as may be assigned to accomplish program objectives
- High school diploma or GED .
- Experience driving and maneuvering large vehicles or trailers.
- Ability to lift and move motorcycles (with ramps and proper equipment).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of motorcycles preferred.
- Valid motorcycle (CY) endorsement.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Able to climb in and out of trailers and maneuver motorcycles safely.

Must be able to lift and/or adjust things such as motorcycles, supplies, vehicle parts, fluids, etc. This role involves communicating and exchanging information with individuals electronically or in person. This role may also involve standing and walking for periods of time, and the use of hands and moving objects over 100 lbs. (motorcycles). Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. - Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
