Job Description

The Facilities Electrician II assembles, installs, tests and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. The Facilities Electrician II diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. The Facilities Electrician II is responsible for the connection of wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.

This role inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in electrical systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.
  • Installs electrical equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.
  • Performs and develops preventative maintenance measures of all electrical equipment in compliance with all NFPA, NEC and TJC codes ensuring operational readiness and performance. Maintains and contributes to systems training manuals and upgrades as changes occur.
  • Prepares the preventative maintenance schedule and produces monthly reports.
  • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Identifies and recommends long-term needs and strategies for electrical systems and components, resulting in cost savings.
  • Maintains knowledge of and develops departmental equipment procedures for power outages.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
  • Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
  • May coordinate, maintain and repair all energy management systems.
  • May travel to multiple sites to perform functions of the role.
Special Projects
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Assists, participates in and/or leads special projects as assigned.
  • Provides additional support and training to facilities stakeholders, including Electricians I.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Licensures/

Certifications:

State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician License – required.

Must Have One Or More Of The Following:

  • High School diploma.
  • Graduate of trade school.
  • 3 years’ related experience with licensure.
  • Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.

  • Within the scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and solve practical problems.
  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: interpret resulting data; standards for design and construction; electrical codes; hazards and safety precautions.
