Experienced Tailor

Tom James Custom Clothing sales office in Southfield, MI is seeking a full‑time Seamstress/Tailor or Master Tailor who excels in tailoring quality garments with excellent attention to detail. Employees must be able to work quickly in a fast‑paced office environment. Weekly hours for this position are 30–35. Compensation will be hourly or piece rate depending on the candidate.

Performs alterations as directed for our clients' high‑end garments and delivers professionally finished garments on time. Demonstrates knowledge of fabric and standard tailoring concepts and procedures with quality workmanship for men’s and women’s garments.

• To make adjustments to men’s and women’s suits, shirts, coats, blazers, dresses, and trousers (e.g., shorten/lengthen sleeves, taper sides, lower collars, take in/out trousers waist, take in/out seat and rise on pants, shorten/lengthen trousers, taper trouser thighs and foot widths).
• Ensure proper sizing of clients.
• Manage all interactions with professionalism.
• Track detailed alteration production daily.
• Perform alterations on all garments submitted for alteration, press finished garment, remove threads, and complete for client‑ready.
• Complete all work promptly to ensure customer delivery date.
• Maintain a clean work environment and maintain all required paperwork related to daily assignments.

• Minimum of 5 years of tailoring experience in a retail or customer‑service environment.
• Strong working knowledge of garment construction in men’s and women’s apparel and ability to perform high‑quality workmanship including hand and by machine.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Self‑starter.
• Able to perform multiple tasks efficiently with a strong organization of time.

• Adhere to all policies as outlined in the Office Support Manual and all company practices and procedures.
