• Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient using the nursing process.
• Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
• Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education.

GRADUATION DATE CANNOT BE SOONER THAN DECEMBER of 2026 TO WORK ON A GENERAL PRACTICE UNIT*

INTERNAL CANDIDATES MUST APPLY WITH INTERNAL PROFILE

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent OR currently enrolled in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program
• Meets the completion of two clinical rotations as required at an accredited school of nursing.
• Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing.
• The completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting).
• To remain in the extern role, you MUST:
• Actively be enrolled in a nursing program.
• Successfully complete each course.
• Provide transcripts to Nurse Manager after each semester/term.
• Provide a copy of your plan of work to your Nurse Manager.
• If at any point the extern does not meet their academic institution's standard for continued enrollment in the school of nursing classes, their employment as an extern will be rescinded.
• Position is time limited. a. ADN:
  Maximum 12 months for ADN. b. BSN:
  Maximum 24 months for BSN (adjust for Part Time BSN programs).
• May complete during orientation.
• Successful completion of 180-day introductory period required to achieve knowledge of policies relative to job duties and patient care unit.

• Current Health Care Provider Certification Required.
